Obscure facts – Northwest Airlines was founded at Felts Field, Spokane, in 1919, which today is a general aviation airport used for medical air evacuation, some air freight, and light aircraft maintenance.

Felts Field was established as Parkwater Aviation Field in 1920 (although it had been used for flights since 1913), was officially declared as an “airport” in 1926, was the first airport in the northwest, one of the first in the nation, and the 2nd oldest airport in the western United States. Felts Field was the departure point for the first transcontinental in-air refueling during the 120 hour flight.

Today, Felts Field is home to the oldest still flying Boeing aircraft in the world, this restored Boeing 40C:
