Washington State ranks high on innovation

Washington state ranks #2 [amongst states] in global, innovation-based new economy.

Washington’s high score is due to the successful high tech industry in Seattle, and the Tri-Cities.

The index is calculated by measuring patent production, the percent of the local work force who are scientists and engineers, local investment in R&D, and venture capital investment.

Spokane’s individual ranking, if it were done, would be challenged by:

Spokane lacks  the critical features to create a local innovation-based economy. We should not feel comfortable basking in Seattle’s warm glow. More on this and what it means for Spokane in the days ahead.
