STA proposes cutting eight routes, 18 drivers – Spokesman.com – Jan. 24, 2011.

8 area bus routes will disappear, due to the poor economy no longer producing sufficient revenue for the government run bus system.

Last year they proposed cutting 2%, then 7% in 2011 and 7% in 2012. This is inline with those proposed cuts caused by a substantial drop in sales tax collections in the city and county.  The new proposed cuts come on top of route eliminations and service cut backs last year. Fares were raised by 50% last year as well.

This would also be a proxy indicator on the state of the Spokane economy.
