Washington unemployment at 9.1%

Workforce Explorer, Home.

In May, the total number of jobs fell by 700 – as seen in this trend chart, we are dipping back into job losses.

The State’s Labor Force is shrinking:

  • May 2010 – Labor Force 3,537,500
  • Apr 2011 – Labor Force 3,488,400
  • May 2011 – Labor Force 3,483,400
  • Bottom Line: There are 54,100 fewer people in the labor force in May 2011 than in May 2010.

The total number of people wanting to work has dropped as they give up seeking jobs. This helps to lower the unemployment number without actually employing more people. Where did these people go?

Details for Spokane will not be available until June 21st.
